Honestly I think like with many other things, that companies have lowered the used by dates to try to protect their own ass, back when I was working in the industry items like milk, eggs and yogurts and creams actually had longer used by dates. Good Quality Milk should actually be lasting another 7 days past the expiry date if properly kept refrigerated. Buying fresh Milk I could safely buy 2 weeks worth without the expiry date running out, back in the early 90's these days you are lucky to see a used by date any more than 7 days, so they may have changed this to protect their own ass, and or it could be some hype so people would spend more money. I know for a fact that they used to add enzymes to cheaper loafs of bread, so it would make the bread go off a couple days later, to get customers to shop more often and buy fresher bread.You’re almost there
