Pain in the neck !

Don't worry I'm not going off on one of my regular topical rants.

It's not a metaphorical pain in the neck I'm being tormented by this morning but an actual physical pain .
It all started a couple of days ago, with severe muscular pain in my mid to lower back region. Yesterday it moved into my left shoulder which virtually rendered it inoperative and today I woke up in bed at around 6am with the complete left side of my neck semi locked, causing considerable pain and spasming when rotating my head to the right.

I've managed to drag myself out of bed keeping my head as immobile as possible . Strangely the pain in my back and shoulder has disappeared . This affliction seems to be migrating at quite a pace so hopefully by tomorrow it should have passed through the top of my head and dispersed into the ether, fingers crossed !

Have you ever experienced back pain that has moved or migrated to other areas of your body ?

I know nerves and muscles are all interconnected but the way this pain is travelling it must be on the intercity 125 mainline.

I wonder if it's some kind of terrible viral infection that on entering what remains of my brain will finish me off.

I’ve never had an issue with my back or neck except the odd crick from time to time… Reply

Feel for you, I suffer with neck pain, I have found turmeric really helps but probably not for you as yours sounds muscular, try to move gently as keeping still will not loosen the muscles.. Reply

Often pain can spread to other parts of the body due to overcompensation, where we change normal movement patterns in order to protect or mitigate the ouchy part of the body.
.
Having said that, blood clots, trapped nerves and (as you mentioned) viral infections can give similar symptoms.
.
There are pain tests you can do that help medics identify causes, so you could choose to seek these out.
.
I hope you get some relief soon and that there's no serious underlying condition.

You maybe just lay the wrong way moved in your sleep to quick Alan , can tell you I found I get no cricks on my neck as I call it ( a sharp pain ) when i read somewhere that lying with one pillow flat ensures the neck and back aligned and is a much better, and healthier sleep than having heaps of pillows as you can get a sore neck with them !
Take a pain killer Alan , the night take a wee tipple before bed ;) baileys or whisky, it might help you sleep better you know pain free;) ..Good luck x

I have that sometimes at end of the day and the pain is quite occipital and very nauseating - it sometimes starts with constipation and gas and tightens up muscles all up my trunk and ends at my neck. Reply

It's probably NATO. There is no known cure, but you can delay some of the symptoms by including Turkey in your diet... Reply
