6 months agoYou answer your question in your first sentence: '[t]he European Commission prepared recommendations to its officials to promote a "holiday period" rather than a Christmas, but the draft was pulled after Vatican complained about it.' Seems to be a no. No the EC is not trying to "steal" Christmas from anyone as it was, first, an internal communications guideline proposal - that went well beyond just Christmas, and second as well as importantly, was withdrawn for revision. Even had it happened it would only have affected official communications of the EC and not the general populace anywhere, so what exactly would you have to resist?
'The Commission pulled out their draft guidelines only for revision, so they are still going to come up with an updated version.'
Yes, because the document regarding EC communications, policies the Parliament and Council already have since 2018, also covers other things like adopting gender neutral, BGLT language etc. however necessary or unnecessary, and was not solely about what to call the Christmas period. That bit was ginned up.
'Not this leftist movement under the flags of democracy is trying to do the same.'
There is next to nothing 'leftist' about this. This kind of thing is primarily identity politics and is usually, as far as I can see, proclaimed by a small cadre of vocal but otherwise powerless proponents who are loud but not overly numerous. It's not the political left.
