Would you ever wear clothes made of algae?
Closed

Did you know that Algae is being used in different industries? Algae is being used in food, pharmaceuticals, and biofuel industries because Algae is a sustainable material and now could be in the Fashion industry. Algaeing, a Israeli startup that is creating a biodegradable, non toxic and low energy material clothing line using Algae.

If you’re curious to why they’re using Algae, it’s because more than half of our clothing contain synthetic materials which includes polyester, nylon, acrylic, polypropylene and elastane. Before this, clothing was made from these materials - cotton, linen and leather which came from plants and animals. However, now with companies mainly using synthetic materials, some people don’t realize that the source of these materials is fossil fuel crude oil. With everything that is happening in the environment right now, Algae is a great alternative material.

The CEO and co-found of Algaeing, Renana Krebs said “its algae formula can be used to create natural fibers and dyes using less water than conventional products, and producing zero waste and pollution.” The company’s tag line is “the future of fashion is powered by Algae.” Renana worked in the fashion industry for 15 years and witnessed the flaws of how much pollution and waste is created in the fashion industry. By starting this new venture, her startup could be a solution to stop the waste and pollution in the industry and possibly fight climate change.
